Just to preface this: This is not a scam. I am an EVE-Radio DJ, I *am* a Member of the EVE-Radio Corp. Ask any EVE-Radio DJ if I am legit :)
Yes, you read right. I'm going to be giving away 2 carriers of the player's choice (i.e. you choose the faction!). This will be happening on 31 July, 2009, with the competition beginning between 0030 & 0100 GMT, ending by 0300 GMT. I'll be playing my Assassin Squares game, with the last 2 standing winning themselves a Carrier!
You can read the Assassin Squares Rules over here:
http://forums.gamingradio.net/showthread.php?t=6728
Same play as always, here's the difference: it'll still be a 10 x 10 grid, but the entry fee is going to be 20 million isk per square, max 5 squares per person. Yes, this is a lot steeper than normal; no, this is not the new weekly price!
As of 06 July, 2009 - 82/100 Squares still available!
I'm going to offer ALL the squares on a pre-order basis, with any not sold prior to the contest up for grabs the night of the show.
If you want squares, please reply to this thread with your char name in game, and how many squares you want; send me the ISKies the week of the competition.
Good luck, and as always feel free to ask questions!

Originally by: KaarBaak Is it too noobish to ask: "What is Assassin's Squares?" I read the rules on your link, but that seems to describe your particular rules for the game. Google was no help.
The way I understand it:
1) You buy a couple of squares on a 10x10 grid. 2) Then something happens. 3) Then someone wins. 4) Profit
Any illumination on steps 2 and 3 would be super.
Thanks KB
It's pretty simple. Think of it as Battleship - except there's no blank spaces, and every "hit" it someone's head with a sniper rifle :)
But if you buy the squares, I eve-mail you your coordinates in private, so only you know your squares. I do keep a grid up on Google Docs so you can follow along and don't need to build your own grid. It does update in near-realtime, or as close as I can get when I'm in EVE and on air at the same time :)
I keep 1 square for myself to get the ball rolling. A square is called out. Say someone calls D5. If your square is called, you lose that square, but you get to call out the next square... you got hit, but now you get to make someone else bleed. You're only out of the competition once you lose all your squares.

Originally by: darkmancer What stops people grouping together? I.E if 10 people bought 5 squares each and gave all they're co'oord to each other, there'd be no way to stop them winning.
If they want to try it, by all means go ahead; you're correct in that I have no way to police it and/or prove that people are colluding with each other. But I will say that during a few of my "normal" contests people have tried it, and every time they've failed to acheive their ultimate goal. Keep in mind that if they're buying 50 squares, it's 1/2 the board... and the other 1/2 are just as determined to win as you are. I've seen quite a few times where people randomly lose 3-4 squares w/in 2 mins, just due to people randomly calling them out, collusion or no. The way I view it - every legal/valid entry is a chance at winning... what you do with that chance is up to you (working alone, with friends, etc).

Right...
I think I'll sign up
I have no way of saying "look, I don't cheat" that you're going to believe. I can point to my past contests: No one has won a contest yet more than once. I put the grid up on Google Docs to make it as realtime as possible. If someone is not there, I purposefully do NOT call out squares, but leave it up to people not playing the game to choose for me. I can keep going on and on, and you'll either believe me or not.
My only suggestion is, try one of the games before this one - I run it every Friday morning, 0000 - 0300 GMT. Given that this big contest is coming July 31'st, you have 3 weeks to try before you buy :) Buy in for 1 square - it'll cost you 3 mil ISK, you can try the game out, and you'll see why I fill the grid every week, with both repeat customers, trying to win, and new people who like the game :) And if you win a prize, more power to you - to date 3 customers that have bought 1-2 squares have ended up winning a prize. Squares are random, who calls what square is random, and the prizes are random... dunno what else I can do to make it *more* fair. :)

In the end the game only works if the prices are less than half of ticket price and pushes you to cheat. Publishing the names just kills whatever illusion of fairness was left. In the end of day someone will just buy two carriers for 500m each. There is no real game, it is just scam waiting to happen.
Forge - Please don't talk about what you don't know about. Have you listened to my show? Have you seen the competition done? Have you spoken to *any* of the people I've linked who have won in the past 3 months since I've started doing these competitions, every week, without fail? No on any count? then I suggest you educate yourself before you blithely label me a scammer; I've given away over 2 billion ISK to date, and I've taken in 2 billion ISK to cover it. It's a zero sum game for me. I want to see people win - my main char doesn't need ISK, he's more than self sufficient.
EVE Radio has been in existence for 5+ years, and many people have worked very hard to give it the stellar reputation it has today. I'm not going to screw that up for them.
Suneai - No, you don't need to be in any system to play. I call all the squares out in EVE-Radio ingame chat. I don't really use IRC during the competition, other than a passing glance to make sure that nothing's on fire in IRC, etc etc.
The winner will be contracted the ship once it's been completed. I will also give them the name of the builder so they can find out when the ship has been completed.
Thank you all for your interest, and I look forward to giving 2 someones a nice cap ship!

Contest is on the 31st of July, so that is the last week of this month.
Yarp, contest is on July 31, 2009. Contest should start between 0030 and 0100 GMT, and will end no later than 0300 GMT.
I don't want the $$ until I fill the grid and we get closer to the contest, just in the off chance something goes wrong, I have to delay the contest, etc etc. I want to hold onto it for the shortest amount of time possible :)

I did build in a bit of a cushion to cover any unforseen expenses. The best rate I was quoted at for having a carrier built was about 600-750 million each, depending on the faction. If you know someone who can do it for less, I'm all ears. If I have any extra, that would go towards drones for the winners... if I can get them each 5-10 drones, I think that would knock out any excess.

Edited by: DJ Apoc on 08/07/2009 11:25:51 Abulurd, just a quick FYI - it's 20 million a square for this competition, max 5 squares per person. As a Carrier costs anywhere from 500-750 million (that I've found), the costs need to be a BIT higher to cover those ships, + drones for the winners if there are any overages. My normal comp I run is only 3 million a square - I'd be more than happy to sign you up for that one if you wish.... I'll be running 3 of them between now and this big comp on July 31st. I currently have a fitted and rigged Navy Vexor as well as a fitted and rigged Vigilant among other prizes, so there's some good stuff in my normal shows too :)
Thanks for the interest so far, and I look forward to seeing you all on EVE Radio :)

You need to be in the EVE-Radio channel, so yes to in game. You do *not* need to be in any particular system. I will be accepting proxy nominations up to 30 mins before the start of my slot (0000 GMT), so if you find out you're not going to be able to make it, if you choose a proxy I can accept their votes, and I will contact you after the contest ends to find out what you want made :)
Let's keep those squares coming folks!

I have won this game before, it's a blast, and for the chance to win a carrier I'm going to play again.
Apoc! Put me down for 5 squares, and queue up the DKM!
@ mentalmackem - I need to know either in person or via eve-mail 1 hour before the contest starts. That'd be 0000 GMT on 31 July.

OK folks!
With 80 squares sold I'm relatively confident the rest will be sold day of game. So this week you can start going ahead and sending in the ISK. HOWEVER, I do have 1 final rules clarification to make prior to the game starting.
When you send me your ISK, also send me (if it will fit in the message space for the transaction great, if not via EVE Mail) Your Limited Access Character API. This prevents players from using multiple alts on one account to "stack the deck" the contest their way. I do not need the Full API, just the Limited Character Access API, which you can get at www.eveonline.com/api
Thank you in advance for all your patience, and I look forward to seeing everyone on Friday at 0000 GMT!

You seem to have misinterpreted the meaning of 'giving away'. You are netting 2 billion isk for these two unfitted carriers. In other words, this is a lottery for profit. It is likely a scam because you are misleading people.
And *you* seem to be unable to read through an entire thread. I mentioned several times in the thread that any excess cash left over was going into bombers and fighters (a few of each, up to whatever is left over) for the winners. How about you learn to read before you make dumb accusations without knowing all the facts... hrm?
Anyways - for those people who are still interested in the comp, 18 squares still up for grabs. If you are sending in ISK, don't forget to EVE-Mail me the Limited Character API as well. Thanks!
